Only 3 weeks had past since FM and I first met in OBS, but the many activities and gatherings seemed to draw our lives closer together. Was something going on??

To prepare for our departure to the states, we had bought webcams for ourselves and our families and were chatting regularly using our new toys. Then one day, FM pulled out something and held it next to the webcam. A pair of tickets to the “Starlight Movies” by Stella Artois at Fort Canning Park! One of FM’s friends, Benson, had these tickets but was leaving the country, and thus gave FM the tickets. “Interested to go?” he asked.

“Sure, why not?” was my immediate reply. He was a good buddy, we got along well, and a free chance to chill out and enjoy a movie under the stars sounded great to me!

It was a nice and relaxing evening, lying on the grass patch enjoying a simple movie. Then the show ended and it was time to go home. Then came the bomber… “so…… what’s our status now?” And this broach of topic sparked off a discussion about how we felt about each other…

The logical mind won that night, and the cruel answer was to 狠下心 and said no. He accepted.

However, my mind was all uneasy the entire night, and the heart won the battle eventually. A meet-up for lunch the next day started off another round of discussions, and I convinced us to “right” the “wrong” yesterday night.

And so the rest is history…

It was 3 remaining weeks of intense dating, and after that, 3 yrs of long-distance relationship. The seemingly impossible became a reality, all because we dared to try.
